Blast: Guidelines for contributors Blast publishes poetry and other critical writing, by Australian poets and writers. Poems and prose submitted to Blast should NOT have been published previously in print form in Australia and should not be under consideration elsewhere. Copyright remains with the writer but Blast should be acknowledged as first publisher. Blast's main focus is on the work of Australian writers. Poetry Blast publishes high quality poetry by Australian poets. Please send no more than four poems for consideration for each issue of Blast . Poems can be sent by hard copy or electronically, it the latter please enclose postal address. See Blast #1, #2, #3, #4 & #5 for examples of poems published.
Critical Prose Writing Blast publishes high quality critical writing that focuses on contemporary social, cultural, and political issues. Literary criticism of a general nature ( not reviews of specific books), and essays of general interest are also published. Topics could be surveys of visual art exhibitions, literary movements, studies of specific writers, or in-depth study of a particular work.
Fiction Fiction should be related to contemporary life. The writing should work at imaginative level & at same time make a point worth making. In other words, it is writing with satirical intent.
Points of View Points of view are meant to be just that - short, sharp pieces that give an original perspective on contemporary events/issues. Length: 600- 800 words max.
General Submissions are accepted in hard copy or electronic form. If in electronic form please include postal address. We may need to send you a complimentary Blast, and hard copy if your work is selected. Manuscripts will only be returned when an SSAE is provided. Blast is published twice a year - March and October.
